Baytown, TX

Baytown is a city that is located within the county of Harris in the region of the gulf coast in the state of Texas, United States. The city is known to be the 6th largest city that is located in the metropolitan area of Houston. There are major highways which are serving the city which includes the interstate 10 and the State highway 146. As at the year 2010 when a census was collected, the population then was found to be 71,802. In the year 2016, when a most recent census was carried out, the total population was at 75,992.

The History of Baytown, TX

The Baytown area which is what it was known as then started to be settled in as early as the year 1822. One of the earliest residents of the city was a man known as Nathaniel Lynch who was the one who went ahead to set up a ferry that was crossing at the junction of Buffalo Bayou and San Jacinto River. Other residents who came to the city during that time included Ashbel Smith, William Scott who was an owner of a given plantation in the Baytown area and Stephen Austin. Gertrude Gardner was one of the very first babies to be born in the city.
